Homentashen recipe – jewish shortpastry cookies

Hi, guys! It’s Purim time or better known as jewish carnival. I baked Homentashen, Purim’s traditional cookies and thought it were better to share with you my recipe.

You need for the dough:

  • 1 egg
  • 140 g butter or margarine
  • 125 g sugar
  • 1 package vanilla sugar
  • 3 – 4 tbsp of milk
  • 500 g flour
  • pinch of salt
  • pinch of baking powder
  •  

As for the filling, you can take any jam you like, but also chocolate (for baking), crushed nuts or dried fruits mixed with jam, chocopaste etcetera…Anyway, be creative!

Follow the steps.

1.  Rub the butter with sugar till a creamy paste. I used a fork instead of a mixer

3  Add salt, baking powder and milk. I used soy milk.

4 Add flour and knete a dough

5 Wrap in foil and let in the fridge for an hour.

6 Roll out the dough

10 Bake at 180!C for 15 minutes
