In the following post I share only my own thoughts and experience. Please pay attention: I’m not the cosmetologist yet and my thoughts are not the truth at last.
Is your skin super dry?
Is it getting drier over 40?
Yozr skin suffers from heating over the winter?
Or is it simply dehydrated?
Well, I used to have combo skin type, but my skin after 40 is getting drier. So, I was very excited to know there’s a new beauty trend how to fill the skin with water, namely – skin flooding.
What’s about?
Dehydrated skin needs humidity to survive. What you do? – Deliver the skin with humectants. You simply put many layers of different moisturisers (toners, serums, ampoules, fluides and creams) over each other without letting them time for fully absorption. And you should use only mild cleansers before. Well, some say: don’t use any kind of cleansers at all. Hyaluronic, acid, niacinamide and ceramides contained cosmetics are the most popular among all the others. You put layer over layer: toner, essence, serum and finish up with the cream. Sounds very similar to me like korean rituals of the 10-steps-routine. I won’t write you novels about the trend. you can read on other blogs. I only want to share my own experience with it.
How I did it?
Said and done. I decided to try it out in both morning and night routines and chose some products from my beauty collection.
Pyunkang Yul – Essence toner
Purito – Centella Buffet serum
Muldream – Soothing Hyaluron S.O.S. mask
Bielenda – Camelia oil cream with hyaluronic acid and ceramides

Pyunkang Yul – Essence toner
Chiara Ambra – Caviar Probiom Active Serum
Muldream – Soothing Hyaluron S.O.S. mask
Bielenda – Superpower Mezo Cream

Pyunkang Yul – Essence toner
Purito – Fermented Complex 94 Boosting Essence with niacinamide and adenosine (I got a sample to try it out)
Natura Estonica – Sophora Japonica hydrating serum
Dr Konopka’s – Calming face cream

1 step – mild cleanser (yes, used my fave cleanser from Pyunkang Yul to clean the skin from other products and dirt)

2 step – apply plenty of toner
3 step – apply serum, essence
4 step – apply another layer of toner
5 step – apply serum, mask
6 step – finish up with the cream
My experience
First impressions:the skin feels like soaked in water. Nice, but gets annoying after a short time. Takes a lot of time to absorb. Over the night the skin feels very soft and deeply hydrated. Skin complexion improves. Applied in the morning I didn’t see the same effect. Don’t know the reason, but maybe because our skin regenerates at night, so I had a better effect to see. The skin looks dewy and feels so for a long time. Anyway I have now my own opinion about the whole thing, do or don’t?
Cleanse and exfoliate
Don’t: if I understood it right, they suggest not to use cleansers, but I don’t think it’s a good idea. Maybe it’s right for very dry skin types, they use to cleanse with cleansing milk. Anyway don’t leave dirt on your skin. Otherwise the whole stuff won’t work and if you have combo/oily skin, you have the risk to clog your pores and struggle with impurities
Do: you want benefit from active ingredients, so, cleanse your skin before to free it from dirt and cosmetic rests. Use very mild cleansers for sensitive skinor do it the way you know. Combo/oily types: exfoliation must be!
Textures
Don’t choose fatty, tacky textures to leave them on your pillow or to sweat under make up. (And it’s super uncomfortable!)
Do: by layering a lot of stuff, better choose lighter-watery textures instead of jelly-oily. Let your skin breath.
Ingredients
Don’t choose too many active ingredients at the same time, don’t damage your skin
Do: decide for 1 or 2 active ingredients in serum or cream. Example: you choose 4 products (toner, serum, mask and cream), 2 of them active, 2 of them simple for hydration.
How many times a day/week
Do: combo/oily skin by regular exfoliating and by choosing light textures (my opinion!) 3 times a week / 1 time a day it’s more than enough. Dry skin types are free to do do it more often.
Don’t overload your skin, let it breath.
Sensitivies
Don’t. you guys who’s skin is sensitive or you struggle with dermatities or heavy acne or post-acne and other not nice things – don’t decide on your own, consult your doctor or cosmetologist.
Make up
Don’t: If you wear make up, notice that it could be too much for your skin.
Do: try first without make up. Notice, that so much cosmetics need a little bit more time to absorb into your skin. So, if you choose the method for the morning routine, do it 45 minutes – 1 hour before putting make up, let the layers absorb.
Conclusion
First, I was more than sceptical. I said to myself: „OK, there’s another crazy trend from Tik-Tok, do I really need it?“ I gave it a chance, and see: it really works, but there’re many little details to notice to let it work the best way. Like!
PS. Some say it’s useful for the body too. Well, I tried it for the body too:
- body spray or don’t use a towel, let the water on your skin;
2. then serum, I used a moisturizing sheet mask for the whole body. if it’s good soaked in serum it’s enough.
3. the cream
Have to say – very uncomfortable! Takes much time to absorb, feels very dewy and cool. I stand in my bathroom and felt cold and had only one thought to put my clothes on as soon as possible! I waited, waited for about 4-5 minutes and it was still on the skin. Finally I put my clothes on and there was this very tacky feeling! Don’t wanna try it again!
