I’ve got samples of Clarins and Guerlain recently wchich made me glad of coz‘ to try some luxury cosmetics I’m not gonna buy at the moment. After hearing from here and there’s some garbage among luxury cosmetics I was double curious. Here’s my experience.
Clarins One-Step Gentle Exfoliating Cleanser

First I got this tiny tube of Clarins and this is my first Clarins, I haven’t tried any other products yet.
Original packaging (source: clarins.co.uk)

What is it?
– a facial polish cleanser 2 in 1, that means it is a cleanser and the scrub at the same time
– 100 ml costs between 24 € and 32 € in German online shops
– for All Skin Types
– to use once or twice a week, no matter morning or evening. When I was searching for info for this post I read a lot of comments some people say they use this cleanser every day. WHAT! Guys, this is a scrub cleanser! The producer says clearly: once or twice a week, not everyday. Be wise, don’t damage your skin.
How is it?
- a creamy-jelly texture, something in-between. Reminds me of a fruity mousse.
- with very small scrubbing particles
- nice and sweet orange scent
How does it work?
a mild cleanser, foams and cleanses good
- removes dirt really well, without drying out
- refreshing
- gentle scrubbing. I said farewell to facial scrubs long ago, but what I liked, the scrubbing partikles are really tiny and not scratchy. Good for those of you who are dedicated to facial scrubs.
- wasn’t irritating at all, but I used it only twice with a gap of several days between.
What should it do?
- gentle cleanser and exfoliator to remove dirt, impurities, makeup and peel dead cells on skin’s surface at the same time.
- „Orange extract works to soften, refresh and revive. Moringa Seed extract, with anti-pollution benefits, purifies and refines the skin and helps to restore its natural radiance. Gentle Cellulose Microbeads tackle clogged pores, exfoliate and renew. The exfoliating scrub leaves skin comfortable and ultimately refreshed.“ (Source: clarins.co.uk)
How you can guess, this lttle thing was enough only for two washes, so I cannot say it really did its job.
What’s inside?
ngredients: AQUA/WATER/EAU, SODIUM LAURETH SULFATE, CETEARYL ALCOHOL, CELLULOSE, COCAMIDOPROPYL BETAINE, COCAMIDE MIPA, GLYCOL DISTEARATE, GLYCERIN, CETEARYL GLUCOSIDE, ACRYLATES/C10-30 ALKYL ACRYLATE CROSSPOLYMER, TEA-COCOYL GLUTAMATE, BUTYROSPERMUM PARKII (SHEA) BUTTER, CITRUS AURANTIUM DULCIS (ORANGE) FRUIT WATER, SILICA, PARFUM/FRAGRANCE, PHENOXYISOPROPANOL, SODIUM CHLORIDE, SODIUM HYDROXIDE, BENZOPHENONE-4, DISODIUM EDTA, MORINGA PTERYGOSPERMA SEED EXTRACT, PHENOXYETHANOL, DISODIUM PHOSPHATE, CITRIC ACID, METHYLCHLOROISOTHIAZOLINONE, METHYLISOTHIAZOLINONE, BENZYL SALICYLATE, BUTYLPHENYL METHYLPROPIONAL, LIMONENE, LINALOOL, CI 15985/YELLOW 6, [V0606F]
– First of all contains a lot of goodies. Moringa Seed Extract, Shea Butter, Glycerin
– And then… ALARM!!! On the second place SLES aka Sodium Laureth Sulfate! They say it’s not as aggressive as SLS, but i try to avoid it in cosmetics, specially for face.
– And theeen… a lot of preservatives which are well known allergens: PHENOXYETHANOL, METHYLCHLOROISOTHIAZOLINONE, METHYLISOTHIAZOLINONE.
– And theeeeeeen… plenty of frangrances. First PARFUM/FRAGRANCE without naming plus BENZYL SALICYLATE, BUTYLPHENYL METHYLPROPIONAL, LIMONENE, LINALOOL. Some of them are among EU’s 26 fragrances-list and can cause allergic irritations.
Conclusion
They say it’s for every skin type, but it’s obviously not for every skin condition. So it’s definitely
- not for sensitive skin,
- not for skin with damaged barrier (also dehydrated),
- not for severe acne,
- not for rosacea and dermatitis.
In my opinion who can use it: type – normal to oily, people who know they’re not allergic to all of these stuffs, people who love scrubs and look for gentle alternative. Though it contains a lot of allergic stuff, but it’s a rinse-off product and using this once or twice a week is acceptable.
Guerlain Abeille Royale Youth Watery Oil

Oh-la-la, I got it! My first Guerlain as laaaarge sample)
What is it?
- an oily solution based on honey and royal jelly.
- the sultion can be used instead of serum, lotion and cream or solo (the better on wet skin).
- Guerlain offers 3 different amounts: 15 ml – 49 €, 30 ml – 88 €, 50 ml – 127 € (prices according German official shop).
- All skin types.
- anti-age.
How is it?
- very liquid oily soltion.
- the solution includes micro particles. First, I thought what’s that? And it turned to be micro-capsules containing the oil.

Shake the bottle before usage, to release the substances. Please, correct this, if I was wrong.
– perfumed pleasant and subtle, not disturbing and not lasting.
– morning or/and evening tu use instead of serum or cream.
How does it work?
- though based on oil isn’t fatty at all. Though absorbs quick it is an oil, so leaves a subtle glow.
- not irritating.
- soothing.
- hydrating.
- good with other care and makeup – BTW saved my makeup from balling up. In the last months my skin got dehydrated, so the whole foundation peeled away from my skin, so I couldn’t wear any foundation. After I put it over serum instead of a cream, it did wonders: no balls, glowy skin.
What should it do?
- hydrate – it has really the feeling not of an oil, but of a moisturizing serum.
- smooth – yes and the best of all evens the skin really well.
- firm and plump – it does, my skin felt much firmer.
- give glow – improves complexion, but I haven’t noticed the glow.

Key ingredients:
– Honey – has many benefits for the skin like moisturizing, soothing, healing, antibacterial and antioxidative properties by containing vitamins, amino-acids, proteins.

Another goodies:
– for moisture – glycerin and polyglycerin, methyl gluceth-20, mannitol, sodium lactate.

Conclusion
Skin type: I’d say for dry to oily types can use it.
Skin condition: only dehydrated skin. In my opinion contains too many irritating components and no-go for sensitive skin, rosacea, dermatitis and acne. But if you know, you aren’t allergic to all of these stuff, it’s your decision to try.
All in all working stuff and big like!
